{"id":7092,"date":"2017-08-04T23:39:52","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T23:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fundamentalis.com\/?p=7092"},"modified":"2017-08-04T23:39:52","modified_gmt":"2017-08-04T23:39:52","slug":"forward-sp-500-earnings-look-very-good","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fundamentalis.com\/?p=7092","title":{"rendered":"Forward SP 500 Earnings Look Very Good"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Let&#8217;s run through the weekly earnings data from Thomson Reuters I\/B\/E\/S:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Forward 4-quarter estimate:<\/strong><\/em> $138.42<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>P.E ratio:<\/strong><\/em> 17.9(x)<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>PEG ratio:<\/strong> <\/em>1.83(x)<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>SP 500 earnings yield:<\/strong><\/em> +5.59%<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Year-over-year growth rate of the forward estimate:<\/strong><\/em> +9.75% vs last week&#8217;s +9.21%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tracking the year-over-year growth in the forward estimate;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>8\/4\/17:<\/strong><\/em> +9.75%<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>7\/7\/17:<\/strong><\/em> +9.58%<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>6\/9\/17:<\/strong><\/em> +9.35%<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>5\/5\/17:<\/strong><\/em> +9.80%<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>4\/7\/17:<\/strong><\/em> +8.30%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The &#8220;forward 4-quarter EPS&#8221; has still not cracked 10% y\/y growth, and it may not, since the earnings compare&#8217;s get tougher with the 3rd and 4th quarters since crude oil prices were less of a drag in the back half of 2016, but you also have Financial&#8217;s possibly to starting to enter a period where revenue and EPS growth could accelerate.<\/p>\n<p>The forward estimate trends remain positive. For SP 500, it&#8217;s one of the best leading indicators we have.<\/p>\n<p>A number of good technicians noted that Financials were on the verge of a longer-term breakout this past week:<\/p>\n<p>Chris Verrone, the excellent technician at Strategas, noted at a Chicago presentation, noted that Financials are starting to break out<\/p>\n<p>Late Friday night, headed out of the office, saw CNBC&#8217;s Fast Money and OptionsAction on CNBC, Carter Worth is now bullish the Financial sector, looking for a break out.<\/p>\n<p>Both are good technicians. As <a href=\"https:\/\/fundamentalis.com\/?p=7076\">noted last week<\/a>, Financial sector earnings look good into year-end 2017 thus far.
